I can’t be separated from entertainment —Bode Blaq

Published by

Bode Blaq is a fast-rising music artiste who has been labelled by entertainment critics as one to watch. He sat with ROTIMI IGE recently to talk about his life and entertainment. Excerpts

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am Ogungbemi Olabode Stephen a.k.a Bode Blaq, a recording and performing Afro Pop artiste. I am a native of Ekiti State and I am 24 years old. I am also a visual artiste, a content provider and speaker. I attended Federal Government College, Ikirun before proceeding to obtaining a B.sc. in Microbiology from Osun State university, Osogbo. I am currently doing music full time.

How did you discover your musical talent?

I noticed that from a young age that I enjoyed miming and learning lyrics of artistes, I did a lot of miming and composing of my own songs way back in secondary school too.

How have you been able to make a brand out of it?

It hasn’t been easy but I have had support from a few people that believed in me from the very start and that went a long way in creating the images we wanted people out there to have of my music. That has helped the brand we have today.

Are you doing music for money or passion?

For passion most definitely, as I have been a creative person my whole life. I used to draw portraits and comics from my junior secondary school days so I am used to being a creative person and I know making money off creativity takes patience and if you are not passionate about what you do you would fall by the roadside.

Tell us about your songs and what influenced them?

My debut single titled ‘worry dem’ is an educative song that people can easily connect with as the message is using your God given gift to keep express yourself, I see it as a motivation song and a feel good song telling people that no matter what class of the society you are in, you have got something that you can use to ‘Worry dem’.

What’s next for you?

I am dropping my next single titled ‘Party animal’ soon and as the name implies, it is a party song for party lovers and I featured a talented artiste named Ladida on that one.  I would never stop dishing out good songs to my fans as there are always new songs on my sound cloud for my fan. So, my people can keep it locked on my Soundcloud page to stream my songs

Tell us something not many know about you?

I have great love for children. I can’t walk past a toddler without the thoughts of playing with or carrying them. Most of them are just too cute to ignore.

If not music, what would you have become?

I would have been in show business still because I am a very social person. I may also have become a full time visual artist as I love to draw.
