How I became a regular customer of kidnappers —Mr Ibu

Popular Nollywood actor, John Okafor, otherwise known as Mr Ibu, who has been kidnapped more than once, has explained how he became a regular customer of kidnappers.

The comic actor, who is a regular face in Nollywood said he was kidnapped twice because his abductors thought he was rich, adding that he would no longer show off on social media platforms to avoid being kidnapped again.

Speaking on The Gist show aired by Hiptv, the chubby actor disclosed that he chose to exhibit a modest lifestyle on and off the TV because of his past ordeals at the hands of kidnappers.

“They say our job is about packaging but that does not apply to some of us again. Packaging no longer matters in the entertainment industry because of the fear of kidnappers, who could be made to believe that we are rich as being paraded on the screen,” he said.

Speaking further, Mr Ibu said he once turned down $200 million to appear in an adult movie, popularly referred to as BLUE film. According to the actor, he was called to a location in Ghana and on getting there, he and other actors were taken to a hospital for a series of tests.

“I was surprised when we got to Ghana and the producer told us that we had to undergo some medical tests. I was surprised because I had never seen anything such as that before. I told them I had a clean bill of health but they insisted that I must be tested again. It was at this point it dawned on me that I was about to be cast in a blue film. I rebuffed totally and told them that even with $200 million, I would not be part of the movie”, he revealed.

On why he’s angry with the leadership of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), he said: “Our leaders have abandoned the industry on the altar of politics. People at the helm of affairs should worry less about politics and concentrate on moving the industry forward.”
