We have a real wedding party to plan was the response that greeted the news of ace movie director and producer, Kemi Adetiba’s engagement to music executive, Oscar Heman-Ackah.
Adetiba has managed to keep her relationship private for a long time, as she focused on her movie-making business, which has now placed her in the league of prominent movie makers and producers in Africa and beyond.
With blockbuster movies such as Wedding Party and King of Boys to her credit, Adetiba could not hide the joy of being engaged to her long-time boyfriend as she broke the news to her fans days back on social media.
The multiple-award winning director said she had planned to make the announcement of her engagement to be on their terms and moulded in “our true narrative’’. Plus, you all here have followed my journey from the start and lovingly root for me. Now, if that isn’t family, I don’t know what it is.”
At a surprised proposal, her boyfriend, Oscar popped the question and left Adetiba speechless as she was embraced by her man in the presence of a few family members and friends, including a surprise guest, Sola Sobowale, whose sudden appearance at the venue left the prolific director in tears.
Speaking about being engaged to Oscar, Adetiba recalled how three years ago, she asked God for an ‘OSCAR’, saying she would have been more specific about the kind of Oscar she truly desired.
“Three years ago, when I asked God for an OSCAR in five years, I guess I should have been more specific,” she said.
While thanking friends for showing her love and support, Adetiba said she felt incredibly blessed to be at the middle of a beautiful moment in her life.
“We are snowed under an avalanche of your display of love, and while it might be physically impossible to connect every single expression of love you have shown, please know that we love you dearly,” she added.
