I am not pressured to do what others are doing —Shola Allyson

THE Eji-owuro crooner, Shola Allyson has said that she is not pressured to do what her colleagues in the industry are doing.

She made this known to journalists at a press briefing held recently in Lagos.

Allyson said there has been controversy over her kind of music as to whether it is secular or religious.

“The controversy about me is that some people say I am not gospel because I sing mostly in Yoruba and my music doesn’t have any religious undertone.

“So, I am in the mainstream of the music industry. But we need to know that there are different segments even in the mainstream music industry.

“And I have always been saying that people who do music marketing are focusing on just a segment of the music industry. They are not focusing on every of the segment of the music industry

“I am actually in the mainstream music industry. I am not pressured to do what everyone else is doing. I sing in Yoruba and I do that unapologetically so even though I add some English so that people would know that I went to school.

“I am not pressured to do anything outside me. I am getting better. I am evolving. I am making efforts to improve upon myself.

“Some people do not come out to tell their own story but I came out to do so. I want people to learn from my experience” Allyson said.

Meanwhile, Shola disclosed that she does not look out for anything while writing her musical songs.

She explained that it has to do with the growth of one’s spirit man in addition to her creativity.

“I don’t look out for anything while writing my songs. I think it has to do with the growth of one’s spirit man.

“I don’t look out for people to dance or to make people like me. As a learned creative person, I bring out the spirituality I possess. ” she said.
