Mavin Records founder, Don Jazzy, has revealed how he almost dumped the record label in its early days, especially when it seemed the label was not living up to its expectations.
Don Jazzy left the United Kingdom with his former partner, Dbanj, to float the Mo’Hits record label, but they soon parted ways, a development that gave birth to Mavin Records in 2012.
While Mavin has recorded successes over the years and has become one of Nigeria’s most successful music labels, Don Jazzy said the dream could have died if he had given up on it some years back.
While many feared the sudden exit of Tiwa Savage, who was known as Mavin Queen and Reekado Banks, who was the most booked artiste on the label at that time would affect its fortune, Don Jazzy has managed to turn the fortune of the label around with recording artistes such as Korede Bello, Johnny Drille, Ladipoe, DNA Twins, Rema and Crayon.
Speaking on how the label has survived over the years, Don Jazzy said everyone has their goal in life, adding that no one must give up on what he or she truly believes in even if it looked unbelievable.
“Everyone has their goals. I almost gave up on mine in the early days of Mavin. As you can see in this throwback picture, I looked fed up. But I had to keep pushing until something changes. May you reap the rewards of your hard work,” he said.
