‘My husband is a womaniser, infected me with STD more than four times’

A woman has pleaded with an Aggregate Customary Court  in Lagos State, to end her 10-year-old marriage to her husband because of his philandering ways.

The petitioner, Mrs. Aduke Adewale told the court that she had caught her husband several times cheating on her.

“We have been married for 10 years, but I have never known peace. He has infected me with STDS more than four times.

“I have now come to the point where I beg him to use condom when sleeping with his lovers. Almost everyone in our neighborhood knows that he is a cheat.

“Apart from cheating, he is also not a responsible father to our three children. He does not care if they eat or even go to school. I am solely responsible for the upkeep of the children.

‘I go the extra mile in taking care of the children aged 9 ,5 and 3 years old respectively. Anytime I ask him for money for upkeep, he picks up quarrels with me and sometimes threatens to beat me.

“His family members are not helping matters as they complain that I nag too much. I am tired of the marriage and I want full custody of the children,” she said.

Her husband, in his response, however refuted all the allegations.

“All she has come here to say today are mere lies. I take care of my children and I have school fees receipts to show for it. I also make sure I drop a substantial amount every day before I leave for my shop where I sell carpentry materials.

“She on the other hand is lazy and nags a lot. I have warned her several times to stop listening to rumours. I am a responsible father and she knows that.

“I set her up in business several times but sadly, the business collapsed. She could not even give account of how she mismanaged the money. I don’t want this marriage to end solely because of my children. I am willing to listen to her while hoping for possible settlement,” he said.

The court president, Chief R.A Williams asked both parties to come with two members of their families for possible settlement. The matter was subsequently adjourned till October 12.
