Husband of three months attacks wife with axe over suspicion of infidelity

A husband of three months has been arrested after allegedly attacking his wife with an axe, leaving her with severe injuries, over suspicions of infidelity.

According to Zambia Observer, the couple, aged 36 and 45, had reportedly been sleeping in separate rooms due to the husband’s suspicions.

Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer, Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the incident, identifying the suspect as Simon Chunga, 45, and the victim as Eunice Chunga 36, who is currently hospitalised, and in a stable condition.

Mweemba said the victim sustained cuts on her head, chin, and left forefinger, as well as a fractured left arm as an axe was alleged to have been used to inflict injuries.

“The couple has been married for three months, but the husband has been suspecting the wife of having extramarital affairs.

“On November 14, around 22:00 hours, the couple retired to bed,” he said.

According to him, the suspect went to sleep alone in the bedroom while the victim slept in the kitchen together with her friend and daughter who visited her.

Mweemba explained that, “In the middle of the night, her friend heard a bang emanating from the sitting room.

“She later rushed there and heard the suspect shouting ” Ndekwipaya” while her friend was crying in the background.

“She was scared and decided to call a male neighbour who quickly responded and came to the victim’s rescue by holding and dragging the suspect outside.

“The friend later inspected the victim and discovered that she had sustained injuries and an axe was on the ground,” he said.

Mweemba added that the victim’s relatives were later called and the suspect was apprehended.
