“My husband has failed to stand up to his responsibility at home. I toil day and night that we might have bread on the table, but he is not appreciative of this.“

Sukurat Sholaja has brought a suit before Oja Oba/Mapo, Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, pleading that her two-year-old marriage to her husband, Tajudeen Sholaja be dissolved.

Sakirat stated that her husband is unloving, uncaring, quarrelsome and has abandoned her for another woman.

She as such prayed for divorce and custody of their only child.

“I still ask myself what I have done to deserve the inhuman treatment meted out to me by my husband.

“I overlook his irresponsible acts and work hard in order that our home is smoothly run, but he doesn’t appreciate all my efforts.

“He’s a complete failure and rather than bow down his head in shame, he complains I’ve not done enough to support him in the home. He rain curses on me every now and then.

“He’s a frustrated fellow and I’m always at the receiving end.  He often shouts on me and beats me.

“He sometimes leave home for days without leaving a word as to where he is. I was apprehensive the first time he did this. I couldn’t sleep or eat. Neither could I reach him on phone.

“None of his family members could tell of his whereabouts.

“I feared he was dead and was contemplating reporting at the police station that he was missing when he suddenly showed up.

“Till date he never disclosed  to me where he went or what happened to him, ”she told the court.

“Gradually this became a pattern.

“My husband never shows affection towards me neither does he show our only child any care.

“I can’t remember when last he carried our baby and played with him. All he does is to bark at  me and our child whenever he’s angry or has no money on him.

“My lord,  he finally left home and got married to another woman.

“I felt devastated when I learnt  of this. I don’t think I can ever forgive him, “she concluded.
