‘My husband drinks, sings and keeps the neigbbourhood awake all night’

A teacher, Mrs. AdenikeAliu has approached an Igando Customary Court in Lagos State, asking that her marriage to her husband, Olusegun be dissolved based of allegations of neglect.

The petitioner alleged that her husband was always in the habit of coming home drunk and disturbing the neighborhood with his noise as he sings on top of his voice.

“His actions had made us move houses more than three times.

“He hardly drops money for the upkeep of the home. I bear the responsibility of catering for our three- year- old son.

“He has attempted to forcefully impregnate me but I won’t have it because all the responsibilities would be on me. His son is even afraid of him because of his attitude.

“The only time he doesn’t drink is when he is broke. He is a sales representative, but he spends all his commission on drinks,” she said.

She asked the court to end their marriage and award her custody of the only child.

“I don’t want anything from him. I just want my peace and happiness back. I can manage on my own,” she said.

The respondent was however not present in court. The case was therefore adjourned till July 11.
