Hundreds of job seekers lobby newly elected Senators, Reps

Published by

Hundreds of job seekers including pregnant women took over the lobby of the Senate and House of Representatives soliciting for employment as the lawmakers resumed the first plenary session.

Majority of the job seekers were legislative aides of Senators and members who failed to secure return tickets back to the National Assembly during the last general elections.

Aside those occupying the lobby, over 80 other job seekers were seen loitering at the basement of the White House where various financial institutions operate.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that some of the staff of the National Assembly were part of those seeking employment as Legislative Aides.

Our Correspondent who interfaced with some of the applicants gathered that some of the applicants possess Second Degree, LLB, Bachelor’s degree and HND as well as National Diploma and Secondary School Leaving Certificates.

It was however gathered that some of the unsuspecting job seekers have fallen prey of extortioners who had earlier promised them employment as Secretaries, Legislative Aides or Senior Legislative Aides.

The Sergeant-at-Arms had a hectic day in the bid to disperse the crowd who blocked the entrance and lobby leading to the House of Representatives’ Chambers during the closed-door session held by the House which lasted for about four hours.

Similarly, the scenario played out at the lobby leading to the Senate Chambers during the few hours spent by the Senators.

One of the lawmakers who spoke under condition of anonymity expressed grief over the spate of unemployment in the country and the need for proactive steps toward tackling the menace.
