Humanitarian group set to celebrate Alake at 78

A socio-cultural group, Egbaland Humanitarian and Development  Council (EHDC), said it is set to celebrate its grand patron, the Alake, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu IV, as the paramount ruler of Egbaland turns 78 years on September 14, 2021.

Director-General of the group of eminent Egba sons and daughters, Jide Taiwo, made this known on Saturday in a statement made available to the Sunday Tribune, saying the event will be marked with series of activities.

According to Taiwo, the Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi will be the guest speaker, as he is expected to deliver a lecture titled: “National Effective Pension System and Establishment of Senior Citizens Centres At State Level,” with the chairman of the event being Prof Akin Mabogunje, while Dr Taiwo Afolabi will be special guest of honour.

He disclosed that the body would also hold a humanitarian programme at the Ake Palace, which would see the elderly celebrating the monarch on his birthday.

Also speaking, EHDC chairman, High Chief Bode Mustapha, said that the second edition of the Free Annual Alake of Egbaland Medi-Care for Elderly (Jigi Alake Initiative) screening will be conducted, as well as checks for diabetes, and high blood pressure.

Mustapha added that drugs for diabetes and eyeglasses will be given free to all the elderly aged 65 years and above, saying that the event will hold within the Alake of Egbaland palace.

The group DG, however, encouraged people living in Abeokuta to inform the elderly around to seize the opportunity “to benefit from this medical mission as it is open to all.”
