Hue and cry in southern Nigeria

THE sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, gathered the smartest and brightest brains and asked them to produce policy papers on his party’s cardinal programmes:

Maybe if we are ready to learn from history, things would change. We are told that there is a world of difference between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge is power. However, wisdom is what is necessary to harness and direct it. Wisdom is what it takes to know what to do with our knowledge. Chief Awolowo had both. Nigerian politicians with little minds would have none of it.

Greed would have none of it. Opportunists would have none of it. The big masquerades of every hue, politicians, obas, ex-this, ex-that, would have none of it.

The natural result is total darkness. We are still in darkness, with some now shedding crocodile tears. On the anti-corruption warfront, I weep for Nigeria, I weep for myself, preparing day and night, position papers on taxation; (the missing link nobody is talking about, gleaned from several years of practical experience in the accounting sector) that will solve the challenge of funding 2019 budget and future budgets for that, matter.

I keep asking myself, “Who sent you anyway?” I weep for other patriots too. With all the summersaults by government, is Nigeria worth dying for? What about President Muhammadu Buhari’s avowed intention of jailing looters? What a country.
