Mr. Adebisi Adegbuyi, the Postmaster General of the Nigerian Postal Service
THE PostMaster General/CEO of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Barrister Bisi Adegbuyi has revealed that the introduction of additional four business strategies in the Service increased its revenue generation and made the Service able to remain relevant in the current changing trends in service delivery.
Speaking on Wednesday at the NIPOST Management retreat in Abuja, the Postmaster General said each of the businesses they introduced was running purely as commercial ventures for profitability.
His words: “perhaps one of the greatest challenges to the relevance of NIPOST is in the area of product offering. For a long time, NIPOST has remained a mono-product organization focusing mainly on mail.
“The new strategy has changed that trend as evidenced by the creation of additional four businesses such as Financial/Digital Services, Logistics/E-commerce, Properties/Workshop and the NIPOST training institute, outside the traditional mail, Counter Services and Expedited Mail Services (EMS). Each of these businesses will be run purely as commercial ventures for profitability”.
Furthermore, Barrister Adegbuyi said it is obvious that in this jet age of digitization, the post office in Nigeria has remained analogue and traditional, leaving no choice to the modern customers than to look elsewhere for satisfaction.
In view of that, he said: “it is in this spirit, therefore, that we have been working tirelessly with our private sector partners to develop innovative and game-changing products and services that were launched on October 9th, 2017, during the world post day celebrations”.
The NIPOST Boss, however, said “despite challenges, a lot of distance has been covered. Quality of service has improved tremendously over the last year and a revenue increase of seven hundred million was recorded in 2017 over that of 2016, while expenditure reduced by 40 percent.
“Less than one year into the implementation plan, the successes are already evident. We certainly have made gains on all fronts. The restructuring is going on well, visibility is improving and innovation is everywhere.
“To improve on the quality of service, we have installed the latest version of International Postal System (IPS), extended the outsourcing of mail transportation to intrastate mail routes and improved last-mile delivery within Lagos”.
