‘How two boys disappeared inside mysterious ditch in Kano’

Residents of Musukwani area in Jakara, in the ancient city of Kano, have been thrown into panic following the mysterious disappearance of two young boys believed to have vanished inside a deep, neglected ditch in the neighbourhood.

According to an eyewitness, the disturbing incident, which occurred on Monday, April 21, 2025, has reignited fears among locals, many of whom now suspect the location could be linked to supernatural forces due to a pattern of strange and unexplained happenings over the years.

The source stated, “One of the missing boys, whose name was not immediately given  calmly approached a group of people sitting nearby, removed his clothes and wallet containing money, and handed them over for safekeeping before descending into the ditch.”

The source added, “We were sitting here when the boy came, took off his clothes, including his wallet with money, and asked us to keep them for him. He said he was going into the ditch to check something, as they usually store things like rods inside.

He never came back. Even after nightfall, we closed our shops and went home. The next morning, there was still no sign of him. His belongings are still with us.”

Tragically, this is not the first such incident. Just days earlier, another boy, identified as Dan Sani, also entered the same ditch with a friend  and never emerged. His disappearance remains unresolved, deepening the atmosphere of fear and mystery enveloping the area.

Nusa Hamza, a community leader and the maternal uncle of Dan Sani, expressed deep concern over the situation.

“He’s my nephew, about 12 years old. He and his friend came to the ditch. He told his friend to wait while he went in. When the friend noticed he wasn’t coming back, he ran home to tell us. We searched everywhere  even the mortuary  but found nothing,” Hamza said.
“All we have now are rumors and fear. Even the fire service officers who entered the ditch struggled to get back out,” he added.

Confirming the incident, the Kano State Fire Service said they received a distress call about the missing boys around 3:55 p.m. on the day of the latest disappearance.

“In response to a call from one Hamisu Wakili, our team rushed to the site in Jakara, but unfortunately, we could not find the missing individuals and had to call off the operation,” said Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, the fire service spokesperson, during a telephone interview.

Meanwhile, residents of Jakara are calling for urgent intervention. Some, like local youth leader Sadam Saraki, claim the area has long been associated with paranormal activities.

“People believe there is more to this ditch than meets the eye. Strange things have been happening here for years,” Saraki alleged.
