How to safeguard Nigeria’s sensitive information, economic development

Published by

As part of efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s sensitive information and ensure national security, economic development and citizens’ well-being, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide has called for a motion of urgent public importance, seeking to safeguard Nigeria’s sensitive information and ensure national security, economic development, and citizens’ well-being by designating the country’s database as critical national infrastructure.

Hon. Olajide stated this on the sideline while receiving the Speaker of Oyo state House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin in his office as part of activities marking the annual 2024 Open Legislative Week.

Olajide Odidiomo, a ranking member of the 10th National Assembly, representing Ibadan Northwest/Ibadan Southwest federal constituency of Oyo state, said the motion when presented before the house and unanimously adopted will make provisions for the designation of Nigeria’s database as a critical national infrastructure, recognize its significance to national security, economic development, and citizen’s well-being.

Hon. Adedeji Olajide Odidiomo emphasized the vulnerability of the database to cyber-attacks, data breaches, and other unforeseen circumstances, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures and necessary support.

The Legislative Open Week 2024, held in Abuja, brought together lawmakers, stakeholders, and experts to discuss matters of urgent public importance.

The event provided a platform for robust debate, collaboration, and decision-making on critical national issues and to also discuss other pressing matters, including economic development, healthcare, education, and national security.

Part of the motion reads, “A call to designate Nigeria’s database as a critical national infrastructure.”

“Direct relevant agencies of government to provide necessary support and security measures and ensure regular monitoring and evaluation to prevent potential threats.”
