DOUGHNUTS are sweet snacks that can be home made or bought at restaurants or bakery. Here are ingredients and directions to make yours at home at your convenience.
INGREDIENTS:
Flour 500g
Yeast 1tbsp
Sugar 100g
Butter 40g
Egg 1
Nutmeg 1/2tsp
Salt -pinch
Milk 1tbsp
Warm Water 1cup
Directions:
Sieve the flour and nutmeg into a large bowl, add a pinch of salt and set aside.
In a small bowl pour in one cup of water then your measured sugar, milk and yeast and stir the liquid until the yeast dissolves.
Make a well in the center of the flour and pour in the liquid, then add butter and egg.
Mix everything together to have a smooth dough.
Grease a large bowl with a little oil.
Transfer the dough to the bowl, and cover
Keep in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until it doubles in size.
Turn the dough out onto a well-floured surface,
Use a sharp knife to cut out the dough into smaller sizes
Then roll into circle to make a round ball, if you want to make a ring doughnut, use a donut cutter and cut out the ring and place on a floured tray till you are through with the dough.
Cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place until they are slightly puffed up
Frying:
For the frying, put your fry pan on your cooker.
Pour in vegetable oil up to almost half of the pan.
Allow to heat up and reduce it to low heat.
Carefully add the doughnuts to the oil, a few at a time
If they’re too delicate to pick up with your fingers, use a spatula to pick them up and slide them into the oil
Then deep fry until become golden brown then flip it to the other white side and fry. That’s how to achieve the white line.
(Note: continuous flipping won’t result to white line doughnut)
When done, remove from oil
If you want to add fillings such as chocolate fillings, strawberry jam or white chocolate fillings allow the doughnuts cool before filling. To fill the doughnuts, make a hole with a small knife in the crease of each one, anywhere around the white line between the fried top and bottom. Fill a piping bag with jam or filling of your choice and pipe into the doughnut until nicely swollen.
Then serve your simple, tasty and soft doughnuts.
Enjoy it with cold zobo or any drink of your choice!
