How to link wisdom to your conduct (2)

Published by

As 2019 is progressively coming to an end, one of the fundamental decisions you would need to make—if truly you desire a different 2020 is this: You will need to look for business meetings as much as you look for prayer meetings, because prayer meetings alone have never made anyone successful in the realm of business. Many religious people are extremely poor in Nigeria because they have been wrongly programmed to detest business meetings. But the truth is; no matter how spiritually sound you are, if you do not know how to run high-flying businesses, you cannot but be poor. Economically, if you want your 2020 to be different from your 2019, kindly join us at the second edition of “Business-Frontier Advanced-Class” by sending your number and name to me at: worldclassimpact2014@yahoo.com. After doing this, I will tell you what you shall need to do, so you too can join others in class on the 9th of November, 2019 at 9am prompt.

Back to the crucial issue (how you can link wisdom to your conduct) I started writing on last week Monday. Last week, I stopped on how you can guide your affairs with understanding. I said you can do this—by knowing why things are said—and why people do the things they do. Taking this further; individuals who possess understanding realize that they must be corrected, at times, because it is vital that they become accurate in every area of life. However, most people do not want to be corrected. They resent correction and simply don’t want to change. They don’t realize that if they live without correction, their lives will produce nothing.

Border closure: How smugglers created over 100 illegal routes to beat…

Understanding willingly accepts responsibility for its behavior. After receiving just one simple word of correction, a man of understanding will readily change and improve. He will grow in character through the correction. He understands that, in order to become the best person he can be, there will be times when he must be corrected. Conversely, one could embarrass a show-off a hundred times, and he still won’t change!

Though we all need a periodic adjustment and guidance from wise leaders, that does not mean we can put the responsibility for the outcome of our lives on these most valuable of all people. We must always be willing to take responsibility for the outcome of our own lives. Only as we are willing to take responsibility for our lives will we be able to gain the necessary understanding about our lives.

Understanding will greatly enhance our problem-solving abilities. We do not have to get along famously with others if we are willing to solve their problems. They will accept our little personality quirks, as long as we are willing to take care of that which has, up until now, remained unanswered.

Always keep in mind that our value to others is in direct proportion to the problems we are willing to solve for them. When each of us walks into a room, people will either think, “Here comes a solution.” Or “Oh, no—here comes another problem!”

You see, we are either solving problems or creating problems, every day of our lives. We cannot be neutral. This makes life very simple. When our goal is to serve people, we don’t need to try to figure out their individual personalities. All we need to remember is that the greatest among us must be the servant of all.

What should a person do when he wants to obtain favor from those who can help him grow in understanding? He must look within and search for his potential contribution. He must ask himself, “How am I different from the myriad of others who desire the attention of great men and women? What can I bring that no one else can? A person’s unique gift will make room for him and bring him before great influencers.

The greater the individuals that we access, the greater will be the wisdom that is deposited into our lives. A gift (referring to any type of unique contribution) will get us in front of great men and women, but it will not keep us there. It is only the wisdom we are able to embrace that will keep us in the presence of greatness. Understanding will guide us in applying and exercising that wisdom.

We will only be remembered for the problems we have solved or the problems we have caused. If we would sit back and evaluate our past performance in the different areas of life, more than likely we would discover that we have been solving fewer problems than we thought we were. If so, we need to start making the needed adjustments right away. The moment we create more problems than we solve is the moment we have become unnecessary.

For instance, if an employee has a chronic bad attitude, it is only a matter of time before he is replaced. He is sitting upon a lit fuse, concerning the outcome of his position in the workplace.

Why is this true? It’s very simple. It is unnatural for a business-person to maintain a painful relationship. As soon as he can find someone who will do the job without the pain, he will get rid of the painful relationship. So, it is up to that employee to become a problem-solver instead of a problem-creator—and the same principle holds true in every area of life.

Lastly, when we live a life of understanding, we also reap the benefits of sensible living. One aspect of sensible living is that we remain silent when it comes to speaking negatively about others. When someone wants to know what we think of a certain person, we most often do not need to say anything if the answer is negative. The other person can hear more from what we don’t say than he can ever hear from what we do. All he has to do is to listen to the volumes of silence! Till I come your way again next Monday, see you where rock-solid leaders are found!
