It’s a New Year and it naturally comes with so many new resolutions that ends up often times not getting fulfilled. I stopped making resolutions very many years ago and simply see a new year as a continuation of the previous one and so I take each day to strive to improve on myself. My mantra is self improvement and to see my best rival as myself.

No two journeys or paths are the same and with that profound knowledge comes a complete freedom to peacefully pursue your goals.
With that freedom comes a need to run your race at your pace without any untoward pressure or influence. Let me use the egg analogy. You see, there are many ways to cook an egg.
Here’s a few; Hard boiled. Soft boiled. Hard scrambled. Soft scrambled. Over easy. Over hard. Over medium. Poached. Omelette…and the list goes on.
For many though, eggs are eggs. But in truth people really have certain preferences to how they prepare eggs and love to eat it as we also do with other types of food. For example, I hate greasy eggs, I love it cooked close to dry especially when cooking an omelette and soft and runny for scrambled.
How does this relate?
I am talking about choices and methods in arriving at a result or a destination using the egg analogy.
And as I have learned, the process requires failing forward. How do you fail forward? First we must recognise the fact that failure is a core ingredient for success. Therefore, failing forward means getting better, practice until you become perfect. It means not being afraid of making mistakes and learning from them. Failure is a key ingredient of success. In essence it›s kind of like you cannot make an omelette without cracking an egg.
Every success story passed through a phase or journey if you like, and the end product could be likened to a dish of perfectly fried eggs from the preparation to presentation by which time the raw material would be refined.
We must also understand the place of time in our journey. The time it takes for a maize plant to mature differs from the kolanut or cocoa tree. So the question to ask is what are the nature of the plans that we are trying to build. If it›s to go far and last long, then the foundation must be deep for durability to withstand the elements.
Therefore, no two journeys are the same. Destination differs and so does arrival time(s). Many ways lead to Oyo town but the time, mode of transportation, departure and arrival time differs.
The time, maturity, weather conditions, environment and industry for a plant is unique according to its specie or family. So it is with your dreams.
When you understand this, you understand that you can have more than a method to carry out a plan. You can break your long time or big lecture into smaller workable plans within your convenience and resources. You can refuse to be rigid. You can try many method and see what works. You can break stereotypes. You can create your own style.
No pair of shoe or dress is a one size fits all and there are different styles to cooking pepper stew or party jollof.
Wishing you a fruitful journey the whole 365 days.
