How Professor resigned from varsity to contest LG chairmanship seat in Jigawa

An Associate Professor at the Federal University Dutse of Jigawa State, Prof. Abdurraman Salim, had left lecturing and joined the raze of the Gwaram local government council chairmanship position slated to hold on October 6, 2024.

Tribune Online reported that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has picked the Associate Professor as the party’s flagbearer to run for the position of chairman in the Gwaram local government area.

Findings revealed that selecting the lecture followed a recommendation by Gwaram’s political stakeholders for his (Professor Salim’s) selfless services to the development of the local government and state at large.

In relation to that, the Gwaram Community Assembly, a non-governmental organisation working for Gwaram local government area development, has commended All Progressive Congress (APC) for allowing Professor Abdul Rahman Salim to serve his people, Gwaram local government, and Jigawa.

This was contained in a press statement issued, signed, and made available to the online Tribune in the state by the group Chairman, Comrade Yunusa Hamza (Tafidan Farin Dutse), who pressed the ruling APC for making professors and other PhDs their candidates in some other local government areas in the coming October 2024 LGA Election in the state.

According to the statement, “the Gwaram Community Assembly and all well-meaning and development-orientated individuals of Gwaram Local Government are happy with the development, which symbolises a new paradigm shift in Jigawa politics.”

The group maintained that “the choice of a professor, PhD holders, and other professionals as candidates for the October local government election opened a new page in the history of Jigawa state politics, a transition to professionalism in managing public affairs after decades of maladministration from the understandable people approach.”

Hamza added that “Professor Salim, as a distinguished scholar and an exemplary leader with a proven track record of service to the community and his dedication to the advancement of education, public welfare, and development in his locality, the LGA, and the state at large, we are optimistic that, if elected, he will provide an example of leadership that will lead Gwaram LGA progress and prosperity,” the statement declared.

Mr Abdurraman Salim is an associate professor of animal science, worked at Jigawa State College of Agriculture from 2010 to 2013, and transferred his service to Federal University Dutse in 2013 to date.

Professor Salim holds offices of Level Coordinator, Departmental Exam Officer, Faculty Exam Officer, Head of Department, Deputy Director ICT, Deputy Dean SPS, Presently Dean SPS, Welfare Officer ASUU FUD, and Chairman ASUU FUD Chapter.

The group also commended the state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, for his passion and dedication in promoting accountability, transparency, and professionalism in public service, which prove his sincere desire to make “Jigawa Great.”
