How our party will regain lost states ― APC South Africa chapter

LEADERS of the All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in South Africa have declared that the setback recorded by the party in a number of states in the general election in Nigeria was temporary, as APC would regain them in not-too-distant future.

In a congratulatory letter, dated March 23, 2019, to the APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, they observed that the success of the party in the entire elections affirmed Nigerians’ confidence in the party and leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In the letter signed on behalf of the members by the chairman of the APC-SA chapter, Chief Bola Babarinde and the secretary, Professor Folorunso Oludayo Fasina, the  party stalwarts y said APC would soon regain the lost ground if was able to sustain the progressive agenda of the Buhari administration.

In the letter indicating that Oshiomhole had been invited to deliver a lecture entitled Party Supremacy in Democratic Governance, on April 13,, 2019 in Pretoria, South Africa, they expressed joy thatNigerians still firmly believe in APC progressive ideals and would rather trust the country in its hands than in the hands of those who almost run the country aground in the past.

“It is an indication that democracy is thriving and taking roots in Nigeria though at a slower pace than we have anticipated. We are a firm believer in your leadership. Concerning the states with inconclusive results, and the states, where the APC lost elections, we are a firm believer that, in the space of time and if we continue with the progressive agenda of the present government, we shall triumph at the elections in those states,” the leaders said.

On the Osun State Governorship Election Tribunal  judgment that went in favour of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Demola Adelekethey aligned with the decision of the party to appeal the judgment, claiming: “It was shocking that Tribunals now arrogate power to themselves to subtract electoral votes in delivering a judgment.”

They also shed light on the proposed lecture, saying it became imperative to avert the “ugly intrigues that played out at the inception of the Eighth Senate, stressing that “APC members needed to show loyalty to the party while pursuing their individual ambitions.”

According to the party leaders, the lecture will afford Oshiomhole the opportunity to interface with APC members outside Nigeria; assess how the Diaspora chapter is progressing and determine how he can relate more with them so as to further deepen democratic ethos at home.

While observing that the issue of the Diaspora voting remained on the front burner for the Independent National electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Assembly, they said this was the right moment to begin closer ties with the Diaspora chapters, even as they lauded the APC national chairman for his tremendous efforts at ensuring sanity and discipline in the party.
