How Lagos monarch’s son was shot, stabbed to death — Police

The Lagos State Police Command has explained how the first son of the Ojomu of Ajiran land, Tijani Akinloye, was shot and stabbed to death by gunmen on Monday along Chevron Drive in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, revealed that the attack happened around 12:30 p.m.

He stated that a distress call was received reporting that a man, later identified as Demola Akinloye, 50, was assaulted while driving his black Toyota Corolla near the Bourdillon Court Estate gate.

According to Hundeyin, “Four armed men in a white minibus attacked him, shooting and stabbing him to death.” He added that police officers who arrived at the scene recovered an expended cartridge, and Demola’s body has since been taken to a morgue in Ajah for preservation and an autopsy.

The case is now being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba for further investigation.

A resident, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident, recounted that the gunmen intentionally collided with Demola’s vehicle.

When he stepped out to inspect the damage, they attacked him. “People nearby fled in terror as the gunmen left him bleeding at the scene,” the resident said.

In response to the tragic event, a notice from the management of a local estate advised residents to avoid the Chevron, Agungi, and Ajiran areas for their safety.

The notice read, “This is to inform all residents that the son of the Ajiran (Agungi) king was assassinated today along Chevron Drive near Ebeano Supermarket. We urge everyone to steer clear of these areas for now.”

A family member, who wished to remain unnamed, confirmed that the family has been deeply affected by the tragedy.

“We were devastated by the news. Demola was dearly loved by his father, who adored and pampered him. He bore a striking resemblance to the king, seeing him was like seeing the king himself.

The palace is in mourning, and the family is not receiving visitors at this time,” the family member shared.
