How I see life at 52 —Saidi Balogun

It was a sober moment for actor, Saidi Balogun days back when he clocked 52. Friends and colleagues of the thespian took to their social media accounts, especially on Instagram to shower encomiums on the veteran actor, but Balogun said though he appreciated the gesture, he has decided to begin to see life from a reflective perspective.

The popular movie producer shocked many who had expected him to roll out the drums for his birthday as he opted for a lowkey celebration, saying his life has assumed a dimesnion where he has to take a look at events of the past 52 years and appreciate God.

Asked what how he feels about life now that he has clocked 52, Balogun said he looked at every event that has happened in his life over the years and felt it was time to take begin to approach issues of life carefully, pointing out that for him to have lived up to 52 years showed that God has preserved his life for a bigger task.

With more than 30 years in the movie industry, Balogun, a successful movie producer, maintained that his vision for the industry has not been achieved, adding that he would continue to work with relevant bodies and stakeholders to ensure that the industry reclaims its reightful place.

“I have many things to thank God for but there are a number of things that still agitate my mind. One of them is the structure of things in the movie industry. I am working hard daily to keep myself abreast of my goals and pushing myself towards the point where I can sit back and feel fulfilled, but for now, I can’t say I am fulfilled yet.”

On what more he wants out of life, the light-skinned actor said he wants to approach life with utmost simplicity, explaining that rising to the apex of his career and tying down endorsement deals are personal goals that he appreciates, but he wanted more.

“I want to tell more great stories about the African people. We are bold and intelligent but we are not telling our stories the better way. That is why we are where we are but I know that we are getting there. I want more for the movie industry and I hope that when the National Assembly is formed in the next few months, our lawmakers will be able to make laws that will strengthen our institutions in fighting piracy and other problems affecting our growth,” he said.
