How I pioneered Afropiano sound with L.A.X’s monster record ‘GO LOW’ ― Hit maker, Clemzy

Nigerian record producer, Nnawuba Onyebuchi Clemsy, professionally known as Clemzy has recounted how he created the Afropiano sound with L.A.X’s monster record ‘Go Low’ which became one of the biggest Afropiano songs during the lockdown season.

The sound star who happens to be one of the pioneers of the Afropiano sound in a recent interview said “I think in 2019 December a friend of mine came back from South Africa and she put me through some South African Amapiano songs and I took a listen and even went deeper and discovered more great sounds of the genre and I said to myself I have to create something out of this genre asap.

“A couple of days later, I went inside the studio locked myself up and created something unique out of the genre. I went to L.A.X as soon as I could and I said to him, ‘bro I have gotten the new wave for 2020 and you have to work on it as soon as possible’.

“At first, he wasn’t sure of jumping on the beat cause he was in a certain mood in the studio that day but I forced it on him cause I knew what I had just produced and like that we came out with GO LOW which became one of the biggest Afropiano songs during the lockdown season in the year 2020.”

Speaking further on the Afropiano sound, he said: “To me, Afropiano is a genre that was created out of Amapiano by Nigerians in the sense that it is infused with afrobeat percussion and melodies like GO LOW, MONALISA, KILOFESHE and so on. If you listen to any Amapiano song and listen to any of the songs I just made mention of, you would tell the difference between the two genres; both are similar but very different from start to finish.”

Clemzy who is well known for the tag ‘Bring D Hit Clemzy’ at the beginning or end of all the music he produces, has produced hit songs for giant African musicians like Tekno, Peruzzi, 2Baba, Tiwa Savage, Simi, Larry Gaga, YCee, Ceeza Milli, Mr Eazi and more. He is a Nigerian record producer and musician.

The hitmaker, however, noted that he has more forthcoming Afropiano-inspired projects and would be delighted to see more producers explore the sound.

“I have more of Afropiano projects that I’ve been working on from then till now with various artists that are yet to be out but hopefully soon enough, a couple will be out and I do hope everyone enjoys it and even the mainstream and upcoming producers and also artists can pick it and make good use of it. As one of the pioneers, there is nothing that would make me more happy and excited to see other people and producers jumping on the Afropiano wave. It will be nothing but an honour,” said Clemzy.
