What came to my mind when the sad news of the killing of Pa Reuben Fasoranti’s daughter reached me was to meet with the 94-years-old elder statesman at his residence to console him to leave everything in the hands of God. The world is watching us this is the time to be more assertive.
The Yoruba living in all parts of Nigeria have been friendly with other ethnic groups. It is, therefore, ridiculous and unacceptable that some yet-to- be-indentified gunmen could have the effrontery to murder the daughter of Pa Fasoranti.
It is becoming more and more worrisome to read daily, the increasing rate of killing of innocent Nigerians on the pages of our national dailies. My only worry at this moment is how to stop further killings in Yoruba land. Those who have been making comments on the pages of newspapers are not suggesting ways of stop killing.
It is in the light of the foregoing that I wish to call on the South-West governors and traditional rulers to set up a committee that will meet with the president to deliberate on what to do to stop further killings in Yoruba land.
Yoruba land used to be known as a safe place in Nigeria. There is no need prevaricating. The die is cast. Those around president Muhammadu Buhari need to give him ample time to read all the pages of our national dailies so as to know the feelings of Nigerians about the current security challenges facing the country. President Buhari is expected to beef up security around the Yoruba, particularly in Ondo State, Oyo State and Ogun State. These three states have been facing security challenges.
At this juncture, I want to implore the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, to fish out the killers of Pa Fasoranti’s daughter and even beef up security around his family.
We don’t want further killings in the Yoruba land. The two questions bothering my mind are who killed the daughter of Pa. Fasoranti? How do we stop further killings in Yoruba land? For me, it is only our governors and Yoruba traditional rulers that could provide answer to the second question. The first question can be answered by the IGP.
