House of Assembly complex, others destroyed in Kwara rainstorm

Rainstorm, on Wednesday evening, destroyed property worth millions of naira in different parts of Ilorin, including the Kwara State House of Assembly Complex in the metropolis.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the downpour which lasted for over an hour between 5.00 pm and 6.00 pm, reportedly blew off rooftops, uprooted trees and destroyed buildings in the state capital.

Some areas that were mostly affected were Irewolede, Asa Dam and Osin, while other areas in the state capital did not witness such downpour.

It was also gathered that the rainstorm affected the roof of the complex that houses the Speaker’s office, just as the rainstorm bought down the glass wall of the council chamber of the Assembly.

Speaking with journalists on the incident, the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Ahmed Katsina Mohammed, said the rainstorm equally affected the roof of the office complex of some lawmakers.

The incident, according to the clerk, affected the canteen section of the assembly complex as well as computers and furniture in the Speaker’s office.

The clerk appealed to the state government to come to the aid of the legislative arm of government, which he said, was currently on recess.
