Host communities commend Dangote Group over CSR, support to uplift families

The Dangote Group of Companies has received commendation for its commitment to corporate social responsibility and support for host communities, especially during this period of economic hardship.

In a joint statement, three community groups—the Obajana Development and Peace Club, Benue Youth Alliance for Good Governance, and Lekki Development Initiative—expressed their appreciation and admiration for the company.

Signed by Omeiza Adeiza, Jimi Odusote, and Terser Tiza on behalf of the groups, the statement highlighted the company’s contributions to the well-being of Nigerians through its various subsidiaries and philanthropic efforts.

“We are pleased to issue this joint statement to express our profound appreciation and commendation to the Dangote Group of Companies for its unwavering commitment to corporate social responsibility and support for host communities, particularly during this challenging economic period,” the statement read.

The statement praised the Dangote Group for its relentless dedication to improving lives across West Africa and beyond. It highlighted several key initiatives:

  • Charitable Contributions: The Dangote Foundation, the CSR arm of the Dangote Group, has donated over $100 million to various causes in Nigeria and Africa over the past four years. This demonstrates the company’s commitment to giving back and supporting societal development.
  • Food Distribution: Recently, the Aliko Dangote Foundation distributed over 1 million bags of rice to host communities and beyond, providing relief to many families affected by economic hardships.
  • Internship Scheme: The Dangote Group has launched a novel Internship Scheme for tertiary students, offering a one-year, fully funded internship program to provide practical experience and career skills.
  • Empowerment Programs: The company has introduced various programs, including skill acquisition, scholarships, farming techniques training, and support for vulnerable women in its host communities.
  • Host Community Day: The initiative has provided a platform for the company to engage with host communities, understand their needs, and tailor its CSR activities to address those needs effectively.

The groups commended the Dangote Group for these initiatives and urged other organizations to follow its example. They pledged their support for the company’s efforts to improve Nigeria and called on other corporate entities to invest in their host communities.

“We believe that the Dangote Group’s commitment to corporate social responsibility sets a model for other organizations. We urge others to follow in the footsteps of the Dangote Group and invest in the well-being of their host communities,” the statement concluded.

The groups expressed their ongoing support for the Dangote Group’s mission to enhance Nigeria’s social and economic landscape and look forward to continued collaboration and partnership.
