Arising from its quarterly review of the tourism sector, Hospitality Watch, the only Non-Government Organisation in the tourism sector, has commended the strides and style of the Director – General, Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation, Mr Folorunso Folarin Coker.
The NGO described the DG as ‘a vibrant appointee of the Federal Government who has brought NTDC, an inestimable solid experience of performance and testimonial of breakthrough to add value to the tourism sector”
In a release made available to the press. Prince Adewale Martins , the association pointed out that “From the conduct, style and approach and responses to tourism issues in the last three months under review, Mr Folorunso Folarin Coker has eminently displayed a robust sense of understand of the tourism sector”
Hospitality Watch revealed that “Instead of him to jump to the boat rowing like a drunken captain, who loves to play to the gallery by embarking on tumultuous voyage in a turbulent ocean, Folorunso Folarin Coker has expertly applied the concept of SWOT analysis by evaluating the strength of the NTDC which is the workforce must rededicate themselves to the charter of their employment and the crop of which must have salary scale, appraise the weakness of the sector by having a product or marketable products to sell, reviewed the opportunities that are many, varied, multifarious, and of low hanging fruits without enhancement and also make a clinical dissection of the threat majorly which is the dearth of contemporary legal framework for the sector to blossom”
The NGO said “We must commend his insightfulness of knowing that only by having a well fettered legal framework, duly passed and assented to by the legislature and the executive can we have a viable, vibrant, productive, progressive and economically rewarding tourism sector. He realised that, the absence of a legal framework in the constitution and statutes had stagnated the advancement of the tourism sector. “Hence, the initiation of NTDA, Act N137 LFN, 2004 (Repeal and Enactment) Bill 2017 (SB 429),”
Hospitality Watch pointed out “we must also acknowledge the candour of Folorunso Folarin Coker for coming out with a new brand for the tourism sector – Tour Nigeria, a marketable product which seeks to sell Nigerian tourism to Nigerians for Nigerians to first appreciate the tourism potentialities within. We noted that Tour Nigeria is not one of the run – in – the – mill, concept hurriedly brought up for propaganda and cheap popularity sake but a well thought out, finely honed and sharpened to unlock and tap the creative fortunes in the tourism industry”
The NGO called on Folorunso Coker “Not to be distracted by the dark elements and mentally short sighted reactionaries who have constituted themselves into a cabal that consistently does not want NTDC and Nigeria tourism to growth . These set of people have forgotten that NTDC is not a personal property or fiefdom of a person”
Hospitality Watch called on stakeholders in the tourism sector to wake up from the slumber of yester years, adding that the global dictate of tourism trends is planted on the proactive dictum of business unusual. “Hence, stakeholders should form productive synergy with the vibrant Director – General who is set to revolutionise tourism sector for blissful economic engagement”
