Tragedy struck in Umuogodoakpu Community of Ngbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, when yet-to-be identified assailants stormed the house of one Mr Benjamin Oke, and hacked two of their children to death, while the eldest child who was also severely injured has been hospitalised.
The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the incident, as the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Loveth Odah, said two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Tribune Online gathered that the hoodlums who attacked the Benjamin Oke family on Saturday, broke into their building, snatched Chidiebere, a four-year-old child from the mother and butchered him right in front of his mother before proceeding to Chisom, a seven-year-old girl and the eldest child, Chinonso.
Two of the children were said to have died on the spot, while the eldest child, Chinonso, is lying in a critical condition in the hospital.
A neighbour to the affected family, giving an eye witness account of the incident described the killings as unimaginable.
According to him, “the unimaginable killings show that the world is coming to an end. These corpses are children of four and seven-year-old children.
“The mother of the children was with her kids when the unidentified persons came and snatched the little child from the mother. The woman was shouting calling for help, but nobody could help her. The killer succeeded in butchering one of the children and then proceeded to butcher others.
“The unidentified persons stormed the family compound with the intention of wiping out the entire family. The children were brutally butchered. These two are already dead and deposited in the mortuary, while the eldest is in a critical condition in the hospital with no hope of survival.
“Their father, I learnt is in Onitsha in Anambra State, but I learnt that he had left Onitsha to the village. Two persons were arrested, but they said they know nothing about the killing, even when the woman who is traumatized cannot say anything.
“The incident happened at Umuogodoakpu Community of Ngbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Loveth Odah, who confirmed the incident, noted that a certain man reported the incident to Ohaukwu Divisional Police station, stating that,w”hen Mrs Oke (the victims’ mother) was frying gari in her compound, two men attacked and killed the children leaving behind the elderly child who survived the matchet cuts.
She further noted that two persons have been arrested and more investigation are ongoing.
