BARRING any last-minute change, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will assent to the bill establishing a federal university in the Oke Ogun area of Oyo State at any time.
Impeccable sources in the presidency disclosed that this was a sequel to the intervention of prominent indigenes of Oke Ogun, led by a close friend of President Tinubu, Professor Segun Gbadegesin, to rescue the bill, which had been gathering dust since it was passed by the last Senate under President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sources in the know of the matter revealed that prominent indigenes of Oke Ogun sprang into action when President Tinubu assented to the establishment of many universities across the country and the federal university of Agriculture, Oke Ogun, remained missing on each occasion.
It was gathered that the joke Ogun elites led by Professor Gbadegesin, an indi-gene of Okeho who is also the Asiwaju of Okeho, intervened to appeal for the presidential assent.
The appeal was anchored on the conviction that as the food basket of Oyo State, a federal university of Agriculture will not only enhance the potential of the area to contribute to food security in the country, it will also establish a federal presence in the Oke Ogun area comprising 10 Local Government areas of Oyo State. When established, the university will be the first federal presence in the Oke Ogun area.
The bill for establishing the university was sponsored by Senator Fatai Buhari. The public hearing regarding the bill was attended by traditional rulers and prominent members of the Oke Ogun community. However, enthusiasm for the university’s establishment diminished until notable figures from Oke Ogun intervened to revitalise support for the bill.
