Hoodlums attack NNPC mega station, kill security officer

Suspected hoodlums, late Saturday, reportedly attacked Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) mega station located at Asa Dam area, Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

It was gathered that the men of the underworld struck when the staff of the station had closed for the day and had left for their respective homes.

Investigations also revealed that a sergeant was beheaded while some other security personnel attached to the filling station were severely wounded by the attackers during the bloody incident.

It was also gathered that the robbery incident occurred while the security men were already asleep late Saturday night.

Meanwhile, the development, described by residents as unusual in the city, on Sunday saw the NNPC mega station under lock and key, thereby causing apprehension among residents of imminent fuel scarcity.

Speaking with TribuneOnline on the development, the police public relations officer of the state police command, Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident, describing it as quite unfortunate.

“Information is true my brother. But the command is investigating the issue to unravel the motives and perpetrators of the dastardly act,” he said.
