Honour covenant with Nigerians, SDP tells APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been admonished to prioritize delivering on its mandate and honoring its covenant with the Nigerian people, rather than getting sidetracked by non-essential issues.

The assertion was made by the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Musa Gabam, while correcting the impression that his party is working in alliance with the APC.

According to him, “By staying focused on the nation’s pressing concerns, such as economic growth, security, and education, the APC can ensure it remains accountable to its constituents and maintains the trust of the Nigerian people.”

In a statement titled ‘Setting the Records Straight: SDP National Chairman Clarifies Old Pictures and Misinformation’, he stated that, “This steadfast commitment will ultimately reinforce the country’s common stance and advance its collective interests. By staying true to its principles, the SDP aims to make a positive impact on Nigeria’s future.”

He stated that, “The recent circulation of old pictures online and in news platforms has necessitated a clarification to ensure historical accuracy and posterity. The images in question depict visits to the SDP Secretariat during the elections of the National Assembly leaders.”

The SDP National Chairman explained that, “Notably, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Senator Barau Jibrin, now Senate President and Deputy Senate President, respectively, and Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, now Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, and other members of the ruling APC visited to seek support from SDP’s elected members.”

“These visits were part of the political process, where various stakeholders engage with different parties to build alliances and secure support. However, it is essential to contextualize these images correctly, avoiding misinterpretation or manipulation for propaganda purposes,” he added.

He stressed that, “The SDP, as a political party, remains committed to its values and principles, prioritizing the well-being and development of Nigerians.”

Shehu Musa Gabam added that, “It is crucial to recognize that the SDP has a rich history in Nigerian politics, dating back to its formation in 1989. The party is undergoing various transformations aiming to address the shortcomings of the APC and the main opposition PDP. Throughout its existence, the SDP has maintained a commitment to social democracy, advocating for the welfare and social justice of Nigerians.”

According to him, “In light of the ongoing propaganda and misinformation, it is essential to set the records straight. The SDP will not be swayed by mischievous attempts to distort its image or values. Instead, the party remains focused on providing a platform that works for all Nigerians, prioritizing security, economic growth, education, and healthcare.”

He stressed that, “The SDP’s dedication to its principles and values is unwavering, and the party will not compromise on these fundamentals, even if it means challenging the status quo.”

“By staying true to its mission, the SDP aims to contribute positively to Nigeria’s development and provide a credible alternative for Nigerians in future elections,” he added.

According to him, “It is essential to approach the circulation of old pictures and information with a critical eye, recognizing the potential for manipulation or misinformation. By verifying facts and contextualizing events accurately, we can ensure a more informed public discourse and prevent the spread of misleading content.”

Shehu Musa Gabam concluded by stating that, “In conclusion, the SDP remains committed to its values, principles, and mission, prioritizing the well-being and development of Nigerians.
