Tutor-General, Zone 2, Oyo State Post Primary Schools Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, Mrs Oluwatoyin Ajibola, says holistic development of the girl-child is a cornerstone for the progress of society.
She added that education, healthcare, and economic empowerment are essential components that ensure the growth of a girl-child into a confident, capable, and influential personality.
Ajibola said this recently during the eighth annual award ceremony organised by the St. Louis Grammar School Old Girls Association (SLOGA), Ireland Chapter, held in collaboration with the Yinka Durodola Foundation.
Ajibola, who was the chief guest at the event, appreciated the alumni’s contribution towards the development of the school, adding that the gesture by the old students will enhance the state government’s efforts towards the development of education.
She commended Governor Seyi Makinde for investing in education, saying the Oyo State government has demonstrated remarkable commitment to the education sector adding, “with other collaborative efforts, we can create a brighter future for our girls.”
Speaking about the award, the chairperson of SLOGA Ireland Chapter, Joyce Ogunyemi, said that the Sr. Dympna Drury Award was to commemorate the legacy of the Founding Principal of the school, Dympna Drury.
She explained that the award was instituted in October 2022 by the SLOGA Ireland Chapter in memory of the late principal, who served in the school for over two decades.
Ogunyemi, represented by the patron of the SLOGA Ireland Chapter, Dr Christine Udoh-Emokhare, noted that the scholarship ceremony, which was in collaboration with the Yinka Durodola Foundation, established by a past Head Girl of the school, Yetunde Durodola Anderson, and aimed to support the progression of the current students of the school to the tertiary level.

The award was presented to two deserving past students of the school, Phebe Orimogunje and Oluwajomiloju Onaolapo, who excelled with outstanding grades in their final year in the school.
Presenting the award plaques was Sister of St. Louis, Nigerian Province, Reverend Sr. Stella Akinwotu with each of the beneficiaries going home with a cash prize of N50,000 courtesy of SLOGA, Ireland Chapter while the Yinka Durodola Foundation awarded the recipients with a cash prize of N250,000 each.
Other 40 students of the school also received a new set of uniforms, courtesy of the friends of Dr Adefolake Fanifosi, a pioneer member of the SLOGA, Ireland Chapter.
Also present at the event was the Local Inspector of Education, Ibadan North, Mr L.ukman Okesade, who was the special guest of honour at the event.
