The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) has issued three weeks ultimatum to the Federal Government to implement the White Paper on the abolition of HND/BSC dichotomy.

The body in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary,  Adebanjo Ogunsipe, said FG’s failure to attend urgently to the issue might result into an indefinite strike.

Ogunsipe wondered why the office of the Head of Service of the Federation had not deemed it fit to implement it.

Also, SSANIP urged the Federal Government to adequately fund the polytechnics as a matter of importance released the outcome of the NEEDS Assessment Committee’s report and make funds available for the immediate implementation of the recommendations as contained in the report.

It also noted the need for government to constitute Governing Councils for all federal polytechnics, pointing out that the smooth running of these institutions has been greatly hampered by bureaucratic bottlenecks involved in the process of securing approvals from the Minister of Education.

Similarly, it urged the Federal Government to appoint new rectors for federal polytechnics currently being administered in acting capacities such as the Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, Federal Polytechnic Bida, Kaduna Polytechnic, Federal Polytechnic Offa and Auchi Polytechnic.
