Oyo state government and relevant stakeholders have submitted that higher percentage of maternal mortality rate is traceable to unsafe abortion.
The stakeholders made the submission at a 2-day Health Workers and Law Enforcement Agents Advocacy Workshops organized by the Creative Actors Initiative for Development in Oyo town on Wednesday.
It was disclosed that cases of unsafe abortion resulting in high rate of mortality rate is alarming.
In their various submissions, they identified various factors responsible for unsafe abortion including the activities of quack doctors, religious leaders, tradition and the position of the law.
According to them, “The position of the law on the illegality of abortion encourage the activity of the quack doctors as professional distance themselves from it.
