Mrs Iyabo Omonigbehin, a food vendor, has sought the dissolution of her 21-year old marriage to her husband, Morufu Omonigbehin, over alleged desertion and drunkenness.
The complainant, who filed the divorce suit at Akure Customary Court, Ondo State, said she had been responsible for the feeding, clothing and education of the three children for two months.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Iyabo had accused the respondent of night crawling, saying, “he comes home at 12 a.m. everyday, drunk.’’
“He is promiscuous. I am tired of him. His actions have shown that there is no more love between us.
“I want to appeal to this court to enforce it on him to be awake to his responsibilities as father of his children,’’ Iyabo said.
The respondent partially denied the allegations, saying that he did care for his children and didn’t keep late night.
He said he had warned his wife to stop keeping a particular set of people as friends but she did not listen.
The court president, Mr Ayodele Omotola, asked the respondent’s relatives to plead with the complainant to have a rethink, saying there was still room for reconciliation and settlement.
He ordered both parties to maintain peace and adjourned the case till March 22.
