Omobolanle had dragged her husband to court alleging that he was irresponsible, uncaring and in the habit of beating her.
She thus prayed the court to separate them.
After listening to the evidence of both parties, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade, adjourned the case till October 17 in other to give the couple the grace of an out-of-court settlement.
On the said date, the plaintiff still insisted on divorce. Odunade thus dissolved the union on the grounds of incompatibility between the couple.
He also granted the plaintiff’s prayer of having custody of their two children.
The defendant was ordered to pay N8, 000 monthly through the court as the children’s feeding allowance and be responsible for their education and general welfare.
Giving her evidence the plaintiff stated: “My husband portrayed himself as a decent and easy going person while we were courting, but he started showing his true nature immediately we got married.
“He became crude in his ways. He was always impatient and talked harshly. He never listened to what I and the children had to say while whatever he said was final.
“He gave me and our children no attention and was uncaring. Any time the children needed anything, he would ask them to come to me.
“They were initially attending a private school; I was the one paying their school fees. I was also responsible for the purchase of their school uniforms, text books and exercise books. I had to enroll them in a public school when I couldn’t afford their school fees any more.
“What he cared about was alcohol. He would drink himself to stupor and turn the house upside down when he was back home.
“He was also fond of cursing and beating me. Any time I complain about his irrational ways, he would beat me and leave me with swollen face or a black eye.
“I moved out of his house with my children so that he won’t kill me.
“My lord, I pray the court to separate us because there is no more love between us.”
“She’s a liar, Kolapo stated when giving his evidence.
“I give her and our children adequate attention. I’m responsible for the payment of our children’s school fees and have never defaulted.
“Despite dotting on her, she still engages in extramarital affairs and throws this in my face. I have reported her to her mother often times, but instead of berating her, she was always supporting and making excuses for her.
“My lord, I also don’t want her under my roof any more. She’s free to go.”
