A farmer identified as Adetona Owolabi has been reported killed by suspected herdsmen on his farmland in Imeko-Afon area of Ogun State.
This development is coming up on the heels of a said proactive measure taken by the state government to prevent clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the State.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that the herdsmen attacked and eventually killed the victim who was in his mid-60s for daring to accost them when their cattle destroyed his farm.
He was said to have been severally inflicted with machete cuts which resulted in the loss of blood and eventually death.
The perpetrators of the dastardly act were reported to have fled the scene while the remains of the victim were committed to mother earth according to Islamic injunctions.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.
Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said two people have been arrested in connection to the incident and that the State Police Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed the Area Commander of Ilaro to relocate to Imeko Afon, to forestall any reprisal attack.
The PPRO further said that the suspects had been moved to the homicide department of the command for further investigation into the matter.
