Herdsmen/farmers crises: Bishop urges FG to provide permanent solution

THE Bishop of Lafia Diocese, Nasarawa State, Rt Reverend Godwin Adeyi Robinson has again appealed to the Federal Government to find lasting solution to the herdsmen/farmers crises, especially in the Middle Belt region, lamenting that three of their churches in Duduguru Archdeaconry have been closed down while others have been depopulated because of the lingering crises.

He made this appeal during his charge at the First Session of the Seventh Synod with the theme: “Rise Up and Walk,” held at Holy Trinity Church, Masaka.

According to him, the first duty of government is to provide law and order. It is only where there is no king that everyone does what is right in his own eyes. So, the protection of the lives and property of the citizens of this country is solely the duty of government.

“This protection should by extension cover young, the elderly, the sick and the disadvantaged; in fact, the protection should even be from poor education, ill-health, poverty, injustice, insecurity, indignity, as well as low self-esteem and hunger.” He added.

The cleric frowned that the government at the moment seems to stand back and security agencies turned a blind eye on the killings of innocent armless Nigerians in the middle belt in homes, farms and even on the high ways by acclaimed herdsmen.

He, therefore, appealed to the Federal Government and security operatives not to shy away from their responsibilities of protecting lives and property, saying it is high time government respond to the needs of its citizenry.

Reverend Robinson then challenged the eligible voters to get their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) ahead of 2019 general elections and urged them not to mortgage their future by voting for corrupt politicians who did not mean well for the country.

Also speaking, the duo of Senator Philip Aruwa Gyunka and Honourable David Ombugadu, assured the congregation of their total commitment to the uplift of the church.
