A group, Movement Against Fulani Occupation, MAFO has described the sustained actions of Miyeittii Allah on Nigerians, Benue in particular as a ‘piecemeal’ coup against the country.
Addressing newsmen in Makurdi on Tuesday, spokesman of the group, Dr Sam Abah, called on the president, Muhammad Buhari, to manifest his popular words, ‘I belong to everybody and belongs to nobody’ in the persistent killings of innocent people by herdsmen.
He called on the federal government to arrest and prosecute leaders of Miyeitti Allah especially now that they have owned up to the killings in Benue.
The group said: “Miyetti Allah is plotting a ‘piecemeal’ coup against Nigerian states and they are executing the plot state by state.
“A phenomenon is going on now in the rise of an ethnic group that has no regards for the law. The killings, therefore, are not acts of aggrieved herdsmen, but the handiwork of well-trained, well-paid, well-armed gangs/militia terrorists that act as a standing army of invasion, sponsored by elites to wage war across Nigeria, particularly Benue State.
The group noted that the attackers and their sponsors are not foreigners but Nigerians, saying, their aims is to kill and destroy Nigeria.”
It urged President Buhari to stand up in defence of Nigerians by declaring Miyetti Allah a terrorist group and also take a step further to prescribe it.
The group insisted that they are backing the governor on the anti-open grazing law and said they were not ready to modify it as it has been advocated for by the Miyietti Allah.
”The Miyietti Allah has not come out to tell Benue, Nigerians which section of the law that is discriminatory and offensive to them.
”Since the Inspector General Police left Benue State after his so-called peace meeting, the killings have not stopped. Therefore the IGP only came to the state to supervise the Fulani agenda.
”We are totally disappointed the police boss has not arrested anyone in connection with the killings of the 73 persons that were recently buried. We have no confidence about what the IGP is doing as regards to the provision of security in Benue state.
”Therefore we cannot guarantee the safety of the communities. We have no confidence in the security apparatus of the police,” the group stated.
