Herdsman killing: Fayose vows to fish out, punish perpetrators

Published by

Ekiti State governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has charged the police and the Department of State Security (DSS) to fish out the killers of a herdsman, Mr Ahmed Dele in Omu Ekiti,  Oye Local Government Area  of the State, promising to bring the killers to justice.

He was allegedly killed by ritualists during communal clashes between the Aiyede and Itaji communities all in Oye Local Government Area, which led to loss of lives and destruction of properties.

A statement in Ado Ekiti, on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Idowu Adelusi, “information gathered indicated that the herdsman, Mr Ahmed Dele was killed by ritualists and not as a result of any conflict between the cattle rearers and the farmers.”

On the  incessant communal clash between the Aiyede and Itaji communities over land dispute, Adelusi said the governor had set up a panel to be headed by the Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti, Oba Ajakaiye to look into the matter, stressing that the government was full prepared to implement  what would be the report of the panel.

Adelusi said  Governor Fayose has charged the police and the Department of State Security (DSS) to fish out the killers and other criminals in the area and charge them to court immediately.

The Governor vowed to deal decisively with the criminals and those harbouring them and asked landlords to hand them over to the police without delay.

He also asked traditional rulers  of the communities to cooperate with the security agents to fish out the killers.

He said the government has enjoined traditional rulers to  promote and maintain peace within their domains.
