A 59-year-old herbalist, Kehinde Ganiyu, was on Friday paraded by the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police for killing and removing his bosom friend’s throat for money ritual.

He said to have burnt the throat in a clay pot with some ritual materials and later mixed the burnt powder with soap for a money ritual, also known as ‘Osole’ in Yoruba language.

The perpetrator of the inhuman act who was said to have removed the deceased throat with a sharp knife on the 9th of July, 2024 at his residence in Oba-oke town in the state, reportedly slitted his throat in the middle of the night while his victim was deeply asleep.

While parading the suspect alongside others also nabbed for other various degrees of offences at the state police headquarters in Osogbo, the command Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mrs Yemisi Opalola, described the act as wicked and callous.

She said the suspect was apprehended by the police detective after intelligence information received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Oke-Odo Division Osogbo, over the murder of a 35-year-old man, Emmanuel Collins, in the town.

According to her, Ganiyu confessed to the crime that he went to the deceased’s residence with a knife where he met him sleeping because he was sick.

“That he slaughtered the deceased with the kitchen knife and removed his throat.

“He added further that he dried the throat for three days before he took it to a bush called Igbo Imese Aiwosi Area, located at Oba-Oke village where he burnt it in a clay pot with some ritual materials and later mixed the burnt powder with soap for money ritual (OSOLE).”

“He confessed to have singlehandedly carried out the operation.”

She however assured that the perpetrator of the dastardly act would be brought to book after ongoing investigations by the state police command.

“I assure you that, after the investigations, the suspect will be charged to court to know his fate,” he concluded.
