Published by

Mr Alfred Mapak, a herbal practitioner says that herbal medicine has no or low side effects than conventional drugs, and maybe safer to use over time.

Mapak stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, in Abuja.

He said some herbs had actually been proven to be beneficial and safe for humans; and that some were being used to produce orthodox medicines.

“We take herbs directly or indirectly, and they are helpful to us,’’ he said.

According to him, herbal medicines are more effective in treating prolonged illnesses or complicated health challenges that have defied orthodox treatments.

“There are numerous natural remedies which have powerful medicinal properties that can fight many diseases even better than conventional medications.

“Many plants can be made into homemade remedies that can even treat cancer; for example guanabana, this Central American plant can treat cancer, diabetes and regulate blood sugar level.’’

According to the herbal practitioner, herbal medicine strengthens the immune system, stabilises hormones metabolism and heals naturally.

“Nature has a cure for all diseases and conditions; we just need to know where to look for it,” Mapak said.

He further advised patients to consult practitioners on the right herbs to take, instead of self-prescriptions to avoid complications.
