RENOWNED preacher, Sheikh Muyideen Ajani Bello, has called on wealthy individuals to use their resources to better the lives of the downtrodden in the society, saying this is one of the most important reasons Allah has adequately provided for them.

He made the call in Ibadan, Oyo State, as the guest speaker at the memorial lecture of the third Babasale Musulumi of Ibadanland, Alhaji Muibdeen Olaleye Akanbi, who died 14 years ago.

The lecture was organised by M. O. Akanbi Foundation headed by one of the deceased’s children, Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi, who is representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

It was attended by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji; the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdul Ganiyy Abubakri Agbotomokekere; the current Babasale Musulumi of Ibadanland, Alhaji Abdul-Lateef Oyelade; Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Alhaji Ismail Olalekan Alli; religious leaders, government functionaries, traditional rulers, politicians and other dignitaries from across the South-West.

Advising everyone to identify their purpose in life and work hard at achieving it, Sheikh Bello said death was the necessary end of all mortals and as such, everyone must be prepared for the event – and at anytime.

He urged people to copy the example of the late Alhaji Akanbi whom he described as a well-rounded individual who was able to combine business, politics and religion to make a success of his life.

He advised public officeholders to be conscientious in their undertakings and always stand for what is right “like the late Muibdeen Olaleye Akanbi did with all his strength when he was alive.”

The chief host, Senator Akanbi, said the foundation was established to sustain the philanthropy of his father.
