Heavy security presence at APC governorship primary in Ekiti

Saturday’s rescheduled All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Ekiti recorded heavy presence of security personnel.

At the Damleck Event Centre, Ado-Ekiti, venue of the primary, armed security operatives of the Police, Department of State Security (DSS) and Nigeria Immigration Service provided heavy security.

Officers and men of Nigeria Civil Defence and Security Corps (NCDSC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Customs Service and Vigilance groups were part of the personnel deployed at the venue for the exercise.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the security officials subjected the party delegates who queued for accreditation to strict screening.

Meanwhile, Mr Opeyemi Bamidele, one of the governorship aspirants participating in the primary, has lauded the committee handling the accreditation process.

Bamidele told NAN that since after his accreditation at about 9.20 a.m., he had not noticed any irregularity within or outside the venue.

He said that he was already expecting the Primary Election Committee headed by Gov. Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa to commence the voting.

The ‎aspirant said that if he emerged the party’s candidate for the July 14 election, he would associate and work with other aspirants to move the state forward.

He also said that if he‎ lost, he would take it as God’s wish and moved on.

“I am delighted with the‎ accreditation and convinced that the election will be credible, free and fair.

“I also want to believe the words of Gov. Al-Makura, who assured us that security measures and election process will be credible, and so far, I have not witnessed anything different. (NAN)
