Heavy duty truck drivers association inaugurates new Southwest executives

…restates commitment to reducing truck accidents

The Heavy Duty Truck Drivers Association (HDTDA) had on Friday inaugurated its new executive members for the southwest zone.

The inauguration which took place at BCOS Event Hall in Bashorun, Ibadan witnessed the inauguration of new executive members of Kwara, Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Ogun and Lagos state.

Speaking, the National President, Heavy Duty Truck Drivers Association, Uche Nebuwa explained that the new executives were inaugurated to make sure drivers abide by traffic rules while on the road.

Adding that the newly inaugurated executives will also give aid to drivers while driving on the road.

He further added that the association is also meant to prevent members from any form of extortion or intimidation by unscrupulous elements on the highways.

“Today we are inaugurating new executives in the southwestern zone who will protect the interest of our members in the southwestern zone.

“This new executives will be saddled with the responsibility of ensuring heavy truck drivers abide by traffic rules while on the road,” he said. 

Also in his speech, the Southwest zonal Chairman of the Association, Engineer Michael Akinloye noted that the newly inaugurated executive members of the association have been tested and found committed to the dictates of the association.

He added that the association is important for drivers in a bid for them to have access to trainings on attitudes and road signs, so that the federal highways will be safe and taken care of.

While he further added that the association also engaged in activities including welfare of the members through the introduction of health insurance to drivers and their families.

The association which currently have a partnership with the Military Widows Association promise to use all at their disposal to enhance the welfare of wives of fallen heroes, while the inauguration also witnessed the attendance the State Chairman of Nigerian Legion as well as representatives of Military Widows.

In a brief interview with one of the newly inaugurated executives, Chairman of Ogun state chapter of the Association, Dr. Oladipo Gbeminiyi, pledge to lay a new foundation by bringing new innovations into the association to ensure safety of the heavy duty truck drivers on Nigerian roads. ‎
