Heads of agencies in science ministry tasked on effective operations

PERMANENT secretary, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Bitrus Bako Nabasu, has called on directors-general and chief executive officers of agencies of the ministry to ensure effective and efficient operations before the assumption of a new minister that would be appointed shortly.

Nabasu made the call at a meeting he held with the heads of the agencies in Abuja.

He said: “It is our duty as members of staff of the ministry and its agencies to collectively implement decisions made by the constituted authority with the best of intentions and ability in line with the theory of collective responsibility.”

He also urged them to maintain regular communication with government appointees on the board  to keep them abreast of government policies affecting their parastatals and rendering of annual audited accounts which should be submitted within six months of the end of their financial year.

“You are aware of my open door policy and my readiness to welcome and discuss issues relating to your agencies at all times. Please, do not hesitate to come up with issues that require inputs of the ministry,” he added.

Nabasu also called on agencies that have not carried out the promotion exercise to do so before the end of July, 2019.

He added that the welfare of staff in the area of career progression should be given paramount attention.

The permanent secretary also stressed the need for nominal roles to be updated annually before the end of the first quarter of the year.
