Ile Tuntun Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State has dissolved the 15-year-old marriage between a woman, Omotayo Adebowale and her husband, Ismaila Adebowale.

Omotayo  in her divorce suit claimed that her  husband intentionally abandoned his responsibilities towards her and the children and cared less about their  welfare.

She thus prayed the court to put an end to their relationship and make him responsible for their children’s welfare.

Ismaila who had earlier agreed to divorce told the court that his wife was stubborn and loved to dictate the tune in their home. He added that he refused to pay their children’s school fees because his wife withdrew them from the school he enrolled them in and registered them in another school.

After he had listened to the duo, the court president, Chief Olasunkanmi  Agbaje observed that their marriage had broken down irrevocably.

Ruling, he dissolved their wedlock and granted the plaintiff custody of their two children.

The defendant was mandated to be responsible for their children’s welfare, education and health service included.

“My lord, the relationship between my husband and I was cordial and affectionate until he took a new wife and everything between us went sour, Omotayo told the court.

“We were living happily in our rented apartment and I gave him my support when he was building   our house. I was looking forward eagerly to the day we would all move in as a family but he aborted this dream of mine.

“To my surprise and disappointment, he took a new wife immediately he completed the building and we all moved in.

“My lord, peace deserted our home immediately he took a second wife. My husband and I started experiencing a strain in our relationship.

“He neglected me and showered my rival with all the attention while she taunted me and made life miserable for me.

“He abandoned his responsibilities towards me and our children and refused to make amendments even when I complained to him.

“I moved out of his house with our children when he succeeded in frustrating me.

“I called his attention to his responsibilities towards our children but he refused to live up to his responsibilities. Rather than make arrangements for their school fees to be paid and other needs met, he would curse me on the phone and would refuse to do the necessary.

“He gave the children only N3, 000 since we moved out of his house 10 years ago. I reported him to his parents but they advised that I handed the children over to them for care, but I refused because none of them bothered to ask after them since I left their son’s house, “the plaintiff stated.

“My lord, she’s jealous and refused to let peace reign since I took a second wife. Hell was let loose the very day my new wife moved into our new house.

“She is domineering  in nature and loved to dictate how the home must be run which I stood against.

“Her rival called me in Lagos where I work one afternoon and  said she had moved out of the house with our children. I persuaded her to bring the children back. She brought back our male child and I enrolled him in school.

“My mother later called me and told me that she had come for the child. I told my father I wasn’t going to be responsible for their welfare any longer and I stuck to my decision but my father later talked me out of it.

She kept the children away from me and kept making demands of me with regards to their needs. The least amount I have given her was N3, 000. Two weeks ago I gave her N15, 000 out the N20, 000 she requested for our children’s school fees,   Ismaila said.
