Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State has terminated the wedlock between a couple, Taye Akinwale and Musiliu Akinwale.
Taye Akinwale who dragged her husband to court in her divorce suit stated that Musiliu was a complete failure in regards to his roles as husband and father adding that he walked out their marriage and abandoned her and their children.
She thus appealed to the court to help put an end to their relationship, hand over their three children to her for adequate care and mandate him to be responsible for their education and general wellbeing.
“My husband is nothing but a disappointment. I curse the day we met.
“He’s no doubt a complete failure as a husband and a father because he was never there.
“Our children and I never felt his presence throughout the time we lived together as a family. He never lived up to his responsibilities which include feeding, clothing and training the children in school as far as he was concerned were not his business.
“All he knew to do was to rave, fight me and turn the whole house upside down. He never bothered about how we survived each day while our children were sent home from school after we failed to clear the backlog of fees we owed their school.
“He packed his belongings one day and left home and never returned. He abandoned me and our children and disappeared into thin air.
“My lord, all I pray the court is to separate us and hand over our children to me for adequate care.
“I also appeal to the court to mandate him to be responsible for our children’s education so that they don’t end up becoming touts or miscreants in the society, Taye stated.
“My lord, I don’t agree to divorce, “Musiliu told the court.
Giving his reason, he told the court, “I sponsored her training as hairdresser. After she graduated, I rented her a shop and got it equipped with the necessary tools.
“Despite all these, she still has the gut to tell the court I’m a disappointment.
“If you separate us, all I spent on her will go down the drain; my investment on her will be a total loss.”
Musiliu added that:”I left the house for her because of a cogent reason and this I will make clear before the court.
“My wife would sneak out of our bed in the middle of the night, go to our sitting room, take off all her clothes and rain curses on me stark naked. She did this almost every night until I caught her in the act.
“I have been struggling under the yoke of her curse for years and do find it hard to make ends meet. I left home to seek a permanent solution to my predicament.”
Ruling after listening to the duo, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunola dissolved their wedlock and granted the plaintiff custody of their three children.
The defendant was ordered to pay the sum of N15, 000 monthly through the court for their feeding. He was also to be in charge of their education and health care among other needs.
