Oja Oba/ Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has adjourned a divorce suit brought before it by a man, Abass Oloko against his wife, Rashidat.
Abass alleged that his wife was troublesome and in the habit of fighting him.
The plaintiff added that anytime they fought, she would threaten to take two of their children to their real father.
According to him, there was no more love between both of them. He, therefore, prayed the court dissolve their marriage.
Rashidat acceded to divorce. The defendant confirmed what her husband had earlier said that there was no more love between them. According to her, her husband related with her like a tenant in their home.
Abass said: “My lord, Rashidat has pushed me to the wall; I’m not going back on my resolve to divorce her.
“She ensured I neither have peace nor rest. All she does is to fight me.
“Rashidat is adamant and will never take to my advice. She also has no respect for me. She addresses me rudely and insults me.
“Any time we had a misunderstanding, she would tell me two of our children are not mine and would threaten to take them to their father.
“My lord, I’ve had enough of Rashidat’s atrocities. I want her go.”
“My lord, I’m also tired of a man whose main occupation is beating me. Abass beats me to a pulp almost every day,” Rashidat stated in court.
“My husband doesn’t love me. He never shows me any care or attention. He treats me like a rag and relates with me like a tenant.
“He is jealous and always suspicious of my movement. He accuses me of infidelity and thus monitors my activities.
“He often tells me two out of our children are not his. He cares less about these children’s welfare. My lord, I’m the one who has been responsible for their education.
“My husband also ridicules me. Any time he’s angry with me or we are fighting, he would order his boys to throw out my property. Many of my belongings have been damaged as a result of this.
“His parents do not support our being separated and would always come to my parents to seek for our reconciliation any time he threw me out.
Ruling after he had heard both parties, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade, adjourned the case and ordered the couple to come to court with their children.
Odunade further ordered the couple to go for DNA test in order to ascertain the paternity of the two children. The result was asked to be brought to court.
