Hausawa community appoints Ciroma Haruna as new Sarkin Sasa

The Hausawa community from the 17 states of Southern Nigeria has appointed Alhaji Ahmed Ciroma Haruna as the new Sarkin Sasa.

The leaders of the Hausawa community went into a closed-door meeting shortly after the burial of the late Haruna Maiyasin Katsina on Sunday.

The meeting, which took place at the palace of the late leader, had in attendance over 100 Hausa natives.

After a long deliberation, the meeting settled on Ahmed as the successor to the throne of Sarkin Sasa.

His immediate appointment is intended to prevent a vacuum on the throne left by the late Sarkin Sasa.

Additionally, a committee has been set up to present the nominee’s name to the Olubadan-in-Council for recognition.

Alhaji Haruna is one of the children of the late Sarkin Sasa, Alhaji Maiyasin Katsina.

The Speaker of the Arewa Traditional Rulers, Suleiman Rabiu, in an interview with the Tribune Online confirmed that “leaders across 17 states were in attendance during both the burial ceremony and the meeting to nominate the late Maiyasin’s successor.”

Rabiu said, “Yes, we have nominated Ciroma, one of the late leader’s children. Other children and over 100 leaders across the southern states were in attendance during the exercise.

“Even before this time, we had told them (the children) that others must support whoever becomes the next Sarkin Sasa. And he must not turn himself into a beggar. He shouldn’t use the seat to extort money from people,” Rabiu stated.

Alhaji Katsina died on Saturday at his Sasa Market residence in Akinyele Local Government Area at the age of 125.
